Integrating Social Cognition into Therapeutic Practice Beneath and Beyond the Process of Therapy Louis H. Falik, San Francisco State University, California, USA

This book presents a model for conceptualizing and applying Professor Reuven Feuerstein’s formulation of mediated learning experience (MLE) to the interpersonal interactions that are integral to achieving cognitive modifiability that is the essential outcome of the approach.  It develops a social cognition model that incorporates MLE as the foundation that builds upon the processes of interaction, incorporating the micro-skills techniques of interviewing and the phases of development of therapeutic relationships that promote effective interventions.  The processes are described, linked to MLE objectives, and graphic diagrams explaining the process, along with examples and practice exercises are included.  The goals of this book are to assist practitioners to broaden and deepen their understanding of the application of MLE to build effective and productive relationships that ensure the successful outcomes of mediational interventions, including the use of the Feuerstein programs of Instrumental Enrichment (FIE), the LPAD, and other techniques to support cognitive modifiability.

After having recostructing the events that brought him from Bucharest to Jerusalem in the 1940s, the book describes the process of FIE Program’s dissemination in Italy, a country where his method is very popular, and some application experiences in the field of school, vocational training and cognitive rehabilitation.
